Market indices were all substantially higher today, as VIX slid slightly. NASDAQ was the best performer after underperforming yesterday. Economic data (discussed below) may well be the driver. Crude oil also rose on the day.

In a muted trade, the major market indices were mixed, with technology and small caps underperforming the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average. Crude Oil rose modestly and the VIX dropped about 6%.
Both the NASDAQ Composite and the Russell 2000 stayed at their lowest closing levels since December 2020 and were unable to hold gains as the market closed.

• Microsoft (MSFT) beat both revenue and EPS estimates, and in a volatile after hours session, is trading nearly unchanged.
• One time COVID darling Robinhood (HOOD) announced that it is cutting about 9% of full-time employees.
